Once a top-up has been asked for on a gold loan, many borrowers keep opening the app to see whether anything has moved. A top-up refers to an additional amount borrowed on an existing gold loan, against the very same pledged gold. Until the money is credited, it is natural to wonder where the request stands.
This blog explains how the gold loan top-up request status can be followed and the stages a top-up passes through. What a pending status indicates, and how a top-up is different from a renewal, are also explained.
As per the public guide for the IIFL Loans App, a top-up request starts from an eligible loan. The bank account is confirmed, an amount within the eligible limit is entered and the request is authorised with an OTP (one-time password).
After submission, the request is assessed by the lender and a decision is taken. Upon approval, the money is sent, the bank reflects the credit and the loan account later shows the revised outstanding amount. Each of these is a separate event and leaves a record of its own.
Following the gold loan top-up request status begins with the acknowledgement received on submission, which carries the reference and the date. A dedicated tracker for top-ups, or a set of fixed status labels, does not find a mention in the public guide.
For those wondering how to track a gold loan top-up application, the reference is matched with whatever progress view the account provides. A pending status merely indicates that the process has not reached its final stage. It neither gives a cause nor means approval or rejection.
To check whether a gold loan top-up was approved, the record to look for is the approval message or written terms from the lender. Approval, however, is not the same thing as money received. The credit is confirmed by the bank statement, and the new outstanding amount by the revised loan statement.
Where no status shows up, a follow-up can be placed in the app quoting the loan and request references. Raising a duplicate request merely to see a fresh screen may make the gold loan top-up request status harder to follow.
The papers linked to a top-up can be grouped by where they come from.
The KYC document related to the first loan is already available with the lender. It has photo identification proofs including Aadhaar, passport, or voter identification. The existing agreement and the valuation certificate also form part of the record, and older KYC may be refreshed.
A PAN card is generally needed under the applicable KYC, tax and regulatory rules. For a borrower without a PAN, Form 97, the declaration that replaced Form 60 in April 2026, may be considered as per lender policy. Updated address proof and details of the receiving bank account are also generally asked for.
Declarations or records on ownership of the ornaments may be sought where a lender's procedure calls for them. Any further papers would depend on the loan amount and the lender's assessment.
Age, residency and ownership conditions are spelt out in the regulations and in each lender's policy. Credit history may be gone through by the lender in keeping with its internal norms.
The RBI (Gold and Silver Collateral for Loans) Directions, 2025 have come into force from April 2026 onwards. As per these directions, a top-up requires an official application, a regular account, and space within the LTV (loan-to-value) ratio. LTV is the share of the gold's value that may be lent. The limit is 85% up to ₹2.5 lakh, 80% above ₹2.5 lakh up to ₹5 lakh, and 75% above ₹5 lakh.
Gold is valued at the lesser of the previous day's closing price and the 30-day average on IBJA or a SEBI-regulated exchange. The value is adjusted for purity and counts net gold only, which is why the eligible amount shown in an app can change over time.
Where total gold and silver loans cross ₹2.5 lakh, a detailed credit assessment including repayment capacity is required. At or below that, it is not required, though lenders may run checks of their own.
A top-up generally moves from request to credit in the manner given below.
After the full loan is repaid, the gold is returned within seven working days as per the directions. A delay on the lender's side attracts ₹5,000 a day.
IIFL Finance may offer a gold loan top-up where the product is available. Each request depends on the borrower's eligibility, the value of the gold and the rules that apply at that time. A top-up can be suitable for existing borrowers who require more funds during the tenure and like following the request digitally. Rates and charges may vary across products and lenders, as funding and risk costs are not alike.
Subject to the regulations and lender policy, the funds can be utilised for genuine personal or business purposes, such as:
Pledging the gold does not transfer its ownership to the lender. The ornaments remain the borrower's own and are handed back after repayment as agreed.
A top-up moves through submission, assessment, approval, disbursal and bank credit, and every stage leaves a record of its own. The gold loan top-up request status is followed through the request reference and the progress view offered in the account. A pending label does not explain the cause. An approval message, likewise, is no proof of money having been received. In gold loan, borrowing is done against eligible gold where the borrower continues holding his or her gold.
The reference given on the top-up acknowledgement after submission is the one used. Its loan and date are matched with any progress view in the app.
A missing status does not mean rejection, approval or a second application. The bank statement shows separately whether any amount has been credited.
No. The eligible amount shown is just an indication, and the final quantum and terms are those in the lender's written communication.
No. The acknowledgement only records submission, while the bank statement confirms whether the credit has come in.
